Description

We seek a Commodity Manager to join our team in Bellingham, WA.  This is a strategic procurement position responsible for all supplier management issues related to overall performance, selection, financial, delivery and contract negotiations. The focus will be on supply chain and proactive supplier management for total service, cost, responsiveness and purchase risk control.     

·         Prepare and negotiate contracts
·         Plan for strategic supply chain including technology and core competency expectations, geographies, localization, service and total cost
·         Develop and continuously improve supplier management process to enable a consistent management and reporting methodology is applied throughout the supply chain
·         Manage a diverse supplier account base covering contract manufacturers, parts OEMs, and strategic services, for cost, quality, delivery performance and responsiveness
·         Understand, track and forecast the key cost drivers and market factors affecting account base
·         Implement appropriate sourcing strategies to control material costs and to assure an adequate source of supply
·         Ensure a healthy competitive supply base and maximize the cost of service value benefits thereby reducing total cost of ownership and operating liabilities
·         Prepare supply change models for account base identifying strategic partners and their networks
·         Drive performance improvements for cost, lead-time, and purchase controls
·         Prepare monthly dashboard management reports for operating liabilities, material readiness, and key changes in process, direction, financial or market conditions and management
·         Identify and implement opportunities for outsourcing, evaluate the business case and project manage the transition
·         Implement sourcing strategies to support corporate objectives, providing the company competitive advantage on total cost, supply chain flexibility and responsiveness
·         Source, analyze, manage and develop a consolidated supplier base to meet present and future needs
·         Learn and improve processes/policies; with appropriate controls, reduce the non-value added activities impacting the team and the business
·         Prepare and present periodic status reports on supplier evaluations and performance to cost and delivery objectives in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001
·         Lead buying teams for managing key supplier activities
·         Research and understand the relevant markets and cost drivers and recommend strategies for improving the procurement and supply chain process (volume purchase agreement, vendor-managed inventory, lead-time reduction)
·         Perform long-range purchasing research and materials planning of key commodities
·         Direct a savings improvement plan for assigned commodities
·         Visit vendor plants to observe operations and evaluate manufacturing practices
·         Coordinate effectively with operations and other departments on the financing of large-value purchases
·         Drive supplier and component qualifications and determine outsource/build analysis


Additional Responsibilities may include:
·         Attend and participate in meeting of functional and trade groups, such as NAPM
·         Perform other functions as required in material management


Requirements and Skills:

Education:   Bachelor Degree or equivalent military training in field of business or engineering
   
Experience:   6 - 8 years in field of purchasing/materials

Supervisory: 2 - 4 years

·         Will work on-site (no tele-commuting)
·         Ability to follow written and verbal directions in the English language
·         Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
·         Work well under pressure
·         Current driver’s license and acceptable driving record
·         Available weekends and after hours when on call
·         Background in performing a high level of material purchases in the domestic market
·         Background in performing inventory control, warehouse and planning functions
·         Knowledge of manufacturing practices, materials and their use
·         Knowledge of procurement principles, theories and processes
·         Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and prioritize work
·         Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates, co-workers, management, vendors and customers
·         Experience with new product introduction and lifecycle management
·         Excellent perception and analytical skills with the ability to induce cooperation in complex organizational relationships


PC Application Skills:

Basic level:  PowerPoint

Intermediate level:  Word, Excel, Outlook


Desirable:


·         CPM
·         SAP knowledge
·         ERP/MRP order experience
·         Background in performing a high level of material purchases in the international market
