Description

Alpha Technologies, which provides world-class powering solutions, seeks a Construction Appprentice, OSP, for its team in Hobbs, NM. This position, under supervision of OSP Construction Installer, assists in construction and maintenance of fiber optic, coax and telecom lines.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Perform storm restoration under supervision of OSP Construction Installer
• Comply with proper safety standards/procedures and work practices according to company, state and federal laws
• Work with customer's specifications
• Under supervision of OSP Construction Installer, operate equipment as necessary to complete jobs, i.e. bucket truck, digger derrick, tensioners, rope rigs, lashing equipment, etc.
• Under supervision of OSP Construction Installer, connect and disconnect, install and remove, move and transfer various communication devices on customers facilities, i.e. taps, line extenders, amplifiers, power distribution boxes, splice enclosures etc.
• Under supervision of OSP Construction Installer, perform storm restoration
• Under supervision of OSP Construction Installer, perform various duties related to customer service including service changes, trouble shooting service outages
• Comply with proper safety standards/procedures and work practices according to company, state and federal laws
• Maintain inventories of material and equipment for regional use, and transport needed equipment to the job site
• Maintain a close interface with the Alpha Regional Construction team and with all customer stakeholders regarding schedules, quality, and standards
• Implement customers’ standards of safety, installation quality, processes, and communication methods
• Enforce Alpha’s standards of professionalism, quality, safety, metrics, and processes
• Accurately track all time and expenses, and report back to the project management office using approved methods

Additional Responsibilities:

• Support Alpha’s sales team, cultivating customer relationships, identifying opportunities, and delivering consistent quality and value

 

Requirements and Skills:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: 1 to 2 years in the field of construction

• Excellent record of attendance
• Ability to speak/read/write English
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
• Work well under pressure
• Current driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Sufficient credit line for business expenses
• Available weekends and after hours when on call

Requirements and Skills cont:

• Ability to obtain valid Class A CDL driver's license within 90 days of hire date
• Good interpersonal, communication skills
• Good organizational, troubleshooting and problem solving skills
• Solid understanding of basic and advanced installation principles
• Rudimentary knowledge of OH fiber construction

PC Application Skills:
Basic level: Word, Excel, Outlook
Intermediate level:
Advanced level:

 

Travel Requirements: Expected 50 to 75%

Desirable Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in operation of lashing equipment, conduit installation, OH and UG cable installation
