Location: Bellingham, WA

Alpha Technologies, which provides world-class powering solutions, seeks a Purchasing Manager, for its team in Bellingham, WA. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day activities and personnel in the purchasing department at the facility in Bellingham. Plan specific short and long-term commodity objectives to provide effective use of company funds, to resolve procurement issues, and to insure timely delivery and quality of materials. Evaluate market conditions and trends in commodities.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Develop and negotiate strategies to effectively supply material, and effectively communicate and negotiate with internal and external customers and suppliers
• Contact potential vendors, perform reference checks, review quotations and evaluate the most appropriate method of procurement. Methods may include: contracts, blanket orders, vendor managed programs, or replenishment programs
• Supervise buyers and develop purchasing plan for their assigned commodities
• Manage performance of suppliers to achieve cost and delivery goal
• Direct savings improvement plan for assigned commodities
• Interact with engineering department to assist in the sourcing of materials, with respect to cost, quality, and availability of materials
• Minimize inventory levels through the effective management of materials and suppliers
• Continuously strive to reduce cost of assigned commodities
• Represent the materials functions regarding internal and external quality audits
• Oversee contract manufacturing in China and new product development

Additional Responsibilities:

• Perform long-range puchasing research and materials planning of key commodities
• Visit vendor plants to observe operations and evaluate manufacturing practices
• Ensure ECO's and material start and stop dates are implemented effectively

Requirements and Skills:

Education: Bachelor Degree or equivalent military training in field of: business or engineering

Experience: 4 - 6 years in field of: purchasing/materials

Supervisory Experience: 2 - 4 years

• Excellent record of attendance
• Ability to speak/read/write English
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
• Work well under pressure
• Current driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Available weekends and after hours when on call
• Experience performing a high level of material purchases in the domestic market
• Understanding of inventory control, warehouse and planning functions
• Strong MRP/ERP knowledge or experience
• Knowledge of manufacturing practices, materials and their use
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and prioritize work
• Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates, co-workers, management, vendors and customers

Basic level: PowerPoint
Intermediate level: Word, Excel, Outlook

Desirable Qualifications:

• CPM
• Background in performing a high level of material purchases in the international market
• Perceptive, analytical, with ability to induce cooperation in complex organizational relationships
